Shingles on my face and terrible sensitivity in my teeth?

I didn't have it affect my gums but it did get into, and ruin, my left eye in 1991. I just this year was able to stop using steroid eye med. I occasionally still have non-painful breakouts on top of my head. It could take a long time for symptoms affecting your gums to die down: but, the virus will still be in you, somewhere, and could re-emerge at any time. I'd find an oral specialist for a second opinion, and raise hell with the sub. Dr. for a miss-diagnosis that may have ruined your chance for the virus med to work. I'd also contact a lawyer. That miss-diagnosis may have let you in for years of misery.
