Why are the light bulbs in the ceiling fan making noise?

2 light bulbs had gone out so I replaced them with CFLs, but now when I turn it on it makes crackling noises & the power went out so I had to go check the breaker. What's going on? I've had to replace light bulbs continuously, more often than most, but now this?
